Wolf Tracks 2/8

The Wolves lengthened their winning streak to four games and are officially what I would call “hot”. We also revenged our butt-whoopin’ we received back in January by beating the Grizzlies Saturday night. Let’s keep it rolling tomorrow in Philadelphia, boys! Here are today’s Wolf Tracks:

Timberwolf Tracks:

  • Phil Miller of the Star Tribune says that turnovers are a part of a “young team’s learning process”. Lately, the Wolves have done a good job of protecting the ball and not throwing possessions away.
  • Gomes’ 26 points came at a great time, as he says he’s “auditioning” his play to see whether the Wolves will extend Gomes’ contract which would give him $4.2 millions next season, as opposed to the $1 million he will receive if it is not extended

This is at the bottom of that article concerning other moves the Wolves may make:

Small moves?

Kahn said it’s “too early to tell” if the upcoming trade deadline proves significant for his team, but he reiterated he will not trade any of his “core” players, such as Al Jefferson, Kevin Love and Jonny Flynn.

How ’bout the draft rights to Ricky Rubio and Nikola Pekovic? “Certainly Rubio,” Kahn said. “Pekovic, it’s too early to see if he is or isn’t.”

  • Jerry Zgoda goes inside what the Wolves will do with that last need filled: An athletic Center.
  • This is my pick, within this article, whom I think the Wolves should go after:

Hassan Whiteside: A lightning bolt from nowhere, Marshall’s 20-year-old, 6-11 freshman center is averaging 5.4 blocks a game. He is freakishly athletic and long, enough so that he now is projecting as a mid-first-round pick who could move high into the lottery by draft night.
